Everyone knows that anytime you visit Caledonia and True Blue on a golf trip it’s going to be special. It’s even better when you take it during peak season – which is exactly when my group went. At the end of April, a group of eight of us descended on Pawleys Island in what was the fifth playing of our Ryder Cup-style golf trip.
The third round of the trip took us to True Blue Golf Club. Being a local and having played True Blue I had the upper hand on my opponents. After warming up we headed to the 10th tee box to start our round. Immediately our group was floored by how wide the fairways were (it was a welcome change from our first two days). The day went off without a hitch. The drinks were flowing, good and bad golf was being played. We got the full experience at True Blue. The wind was blowing 15 mph sustained with gusts up to 25. We were all riding high after the round knowing that we still had Caledonia as the final round.
Our final round of the trip was an afternoon tee time at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. I made us all get there a couple hours early so we could sit on the back porch and enjoy the fantastic food they have to offer. Caledonia had a tournament going on in the morning so we sat around and made side bets on approach shots and putts at the 18th green.
We started on 10 again and vibes were through the roof. It was about 75 degrees with wind howling. Perfect weather to try and go low. The best part of the day was standing on 17 tee and hearing the roars from all of the folks on 18 green. That’s when we knew we were in for a treat. Two pars and two bogeys came out of our group, but we did receive some fine golf claps from the patrons. Long story short, we retained the cup again and managed not to disturb the wedding that was going on right behind the 9th hole as we finished. All in all, the day was a win!
