Video Tip: Using a Pool Noodle to Help Your Swing Path

Steve Dresser loves to use a wide variety of training aids, and this one includes a pool noodle! See how he and the Steve Dresser Golf Academy at True Blue Golf Club use them to help their students reinforce the proper swing path.

Steve Dresser:
People tease me all the time about all the PVC we have around here. I’m always trying to come up with some goofy little project that might help people with their golf swings!

This one you could say is mostly for your hand path. We talk about swing path, which is the path that the club head swings along. If it’s fairly parallel to this, it’ll be a circular path. Well, your hands should do the same thing when you swing a golf club. They’re going to stay reasonably close to your body and also move around in a circular manner like that.

What’s cool about this thing, if we get players who make the infamous over the top move, obviously that’s going to be in the way. If they get a little too under the plane over here, they’re going to catch the semi-circle on the other side. We can even bend this in any direction we want to accommodate the player’s particular needs. As you can see, it’s not real easy to bend it, is it? So we should be able to just make a swing without hitting it. So if you’re swinging the club where you don’t want to swing it, put an obstacle in the way.
