Mike Strantz has created some greens that will dominate your dreams (or nightmares) when your head hits the pillow, in anticipation of playing all the great, challenging putting surfaces at Bulls Bay, Tobacco Road, True Blue and Caledonia. One in particular that stands out to us is the par-three 6th at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
When the pin is up front, it’s one of the best shots to hit on the entire golf course. Golfers can use the backstop behind this hole to work the ball back toward the cup. Only playing about 140 yards when the pin is there, you might have a chance at a hole-in-one. When the pin is back left, hold on for dear life. Players will have to navigate the large tree and very deep bunker on the left side. While the front hole location would favor a left-to-right ball flight, the back favors a right-to-left trajectory.
While we know no one likes to miss greens, Strantz leaves you very little room to miss on this 157-yard par three. Missing short of this green could you leave you with one of the hardest shots of the entire day. Golfers will have to navigate the knob and multiple runoffs that protect the back-left hole location. You will have the opposite shot if you miss just long when the pin is up front.
One great aspect of a Mike Strantz course is the fact that great shots get rewarded, while bad shots get punished, and this certainly holds true on the 6th at Caledonia. A great shot can set up a possible birdie or an easy par, while the bad shots can lead to a bogey or double.
Let us know how you fare when you take on the 6th for yourself next time you tee it up at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club!
