Designed by the late, great Mike Strantz, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club’s Lowcountry backdrop is sure to take your breath away, along with its layout, which offers the ultimate combination of creative design features, with large, undulating greens, strategic bunkering and many of the Lowcountry’s native elements such as marshy areas, towering live oaks and flowers in full bloom.
You can count each member of Hootie & the Blowfish among those captivated by Caledonia’s beauty and course design. When drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld asks Darius Rucker what he likes most about Caledonia, Darius doesn’t hesitate: “The view coming in, man, with those live oaks. It’s just a beautiful, beautiful place to play golf. [And with] the golf course being in the “Top 100” every year … it’s just an amazing layout. Every hole is a signature hole.”
Lead guitarist Mark Bryan: “It’s a masterpiece. I’m going right on record in saying it’s a Mike Strantz masterpiece. It’s one of my favorites, literally anywhere.”
Caledonia is one of four Myrtle Beach-area facilities – including Grande Dunes Resort Course, The Dye Course at Barefoot Resort and Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club – that Hootie & the Blowfish look to as their “go-to” designs whenever they’re in town on a golf trip. That’s meaningful stuff coming from the hosts of the Monday After the Masters tournament.
Caledonia Director of Golf Operations Bob Seganti couldn’t be more pleased that Hootie & the Blowfish holds Caledonia in such high regard. “As lifelong fans of the band and the music, along with their love of golf, we are absolutely thrilled that the band visited Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, and helped promote Caledonia Golf Vacations along with the Group Therapy Tour,” said Seganti, adding, “It’s always a pleasure to see the band in Myrtle Beach. They are such huge supporters of golf in general and junior golf in the Myrtle Beach marketplace.”
