Although our focus tends to be on golf in Myrtle Beach, we must equally appreciate what makes our area just so special – the beach. Luckily, global organizations with a local presence are working to make sure that our oceans and beaches are preserved so generations to come can enjoy them just as much as we do.
One organization whose focus is doing just this is our local chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Their core focus is on ensuring that beaches are accessible, developmental threats to coastal regions are addressed, clean water is abundant, ocean water and marine life are preserved, and beaches and oceans are free of litter.
Our Grand Strand Surfrider chapter is one of dozens throughout North America that allow others like us who are passionate about our oceans and beaches to get involved. All that they intend to accomplish is encapsulated in their slogan, “Help Sea Better,” to promote long-term activism to ensure that the things that make Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area so special remain this way for years to come.
Surfrider is always looking for more people to join in the efforts towards cleaner coastal regions, and you can sign up for a membership today. Regular memberships start at just $25, and a simple donation goes a long way, too. Just $20 pays for two water tests to make sure our ocean is healthy and safe, $100 protects ¼ mile of coastline through beach preservation programs, and $500 educates 2,000 school children about the importance of recycling and caring for our oceans.
